Used Vacuum Pumps
- (Vacuum Pump) A pump used to remove air and moisture from a refrigeration system at a pressure below atmospheric pressure.
- (vacuum pump) a mechanical device that generates vacuum. Varieties include manual and AC, DC or air-powered types.
- A pump used for creating a vacuum
- (vacuum pump) air pump: a pump that moves air in or out of something
Vacuum Pump
Suspended oil as a result of vacuum pump operation. The vacuum pump has an exhaust 'chimney' on it. I recently discovered that this 'chimney' is constantly releasing oil into the air, while the vacuum pump is running. I tried placing a sock over this exhaust port, but the oil escaped anyway. The pump is in my bedroom, but after a few short runs, evidence of suspended oil is present in my kitchen. An ordinary low power (less than 5 mW) Radio Shack red pointer is shown being used to confirm the presence of this oil: the beam from such a pointer would never be visible under normal conditions.
I must find a way to 'filter' this oil.
Vacuum pump
A modern (1960) reconstruction of the vacuum pump (air pump) built by Robert Hooke (1635-1703) for Robert Boyle (1627-1691) in 1659. This was the first British vacuum pump and was an improvement on Otto von Guericke's (1602-1686) original vacuum pump from around 1647. Boyle used the pump extensively in his early work, making discoveries such as that sound does not travel in a vacuum and that air is necessary to sustain a candle flame.
